I would like to nominate my horse, Oscar, for Steed of the Week. Oscar is a
black-brown 15 year old Standardbred gelding. He is a really beautiful example
of Standardbred breeding, with his athletic frame, small face and big eyes. But
the reason Oscar deserves to be the HorseWest Steed of the Week is that he's
so charming, quirky and clever - everyone from little children to show judges love
him! Oscar had a long pacing career but fell on hard times when he was retired.
But he was one of the lucky ones who was rescued and rehomed. I have had
him for 2 years now, and in that time he has gone from being defensive,
angry, head-shy, and scared, to being happy, respectful and very fun-loving
again. It is a credit to his nice nature that he has been able to put his bad
experiences behind him, and learn to trust in people again. Viva Oscar :)
